Does it ever go away?
No. It changes, though.
The weight of it, I guess. 

At some point, it becomes bearable. 
It turns into something that you can crawl out from under, 
and carry around like a brick in your pocket. 
And you even forget it for a while, 
but then you reach in for whatever reason, 
and there it is.

Sometimes, lines from a randomly-picked movie will overwhelmingly strike you at the least expected moment, like a fine stimuli falls right on the spot you thought it was numb for long enough. Those you put under the category of "healed/ away" actually stay right there, and those you think you own are nothing but phantom limbs...

Anyway, time moves on.
